A Hocking Hills yoga retreat doesn't need a resort, just your group and a covered porch. Fill the rest of the day with short walks, long meals, a soak and a fire. For a class or a treatment in town, Inner Wisdom Wellness in Logan offers yoga and sound baths, and several inns in the area run spas.

Our cabin sleeps up to 9, which is about right for a group of friends planning their own retreat.

Plan your own retreat at a cabin

The simplest retreat is the one you run yourselves. Pick a cabin with room to spread out, bring mats, blocks and a speaker, and let the friend who teaches lead the mornings.

At Serenity Lodge, that means two covered porches, a back deck and open meadows on 97 acres, plus an 1,100-square-foot great room for rainy days. There are no neighbors in sight, so nobody minds a sunrise session or a long silence.

Our house rules don't allow outside visitors, so instructors and therapists can't come to the cabin. If your teacher is part of the group, they're just another guest.

A sample slow day

  • Sunrise: yoga on the covered porch, then coffee. There's a drip maker and a grinder at the cabin.
  • Morning: a long breakfast at the 11-foot hickory table John built.
  • Late morning: an easy walk at Ash Cave, 10 minutes away, on a flat, paved quarter-mile trail.
  • Afternoon: a nap, a book on the porch swing, or a paddle at Lake Hope.
  • Evening: the hot tub, then the fire pit until the stars come out.

Yoga and sound baths in Logan

Inner Wisdom Wellness in Logan offers yoga sessions, sound baths, energy balancing and life coaching, and it plans retreats for groups of friends, families and companies. It doesn't post a class schedule online, so email or call to book a session in town.

A Hocking Hills spa day

Most of the Hocking Hills spa options are inside inns and resorts near the state park, with massages, facials and couples treatments. Ask whether a spa takes guests who aren't staying there, and reserve early for October weekends.

Make a half day of it: a treatment in the morning, lunch at the state park lodge, then home before dark. Our guide to wineries in Hocking Hills has a few patios for the afternoon.

Slow places to spend a day

The John Glenn Astronomy Park is a dark-sky site at the state park, a project of the Friends of the Hocking Hills State Park, with evening programs on clear nights. Dress warmly.

In July, Lilyfest fills the three acres of Bishop Educational Gardens in Rockbridge with artists, live music and guided nature hikes. Admission is free, and the 2027 dates are July 9 to 11.

For an easy walk, Ash Cave's gorge trail is flat and paved. Our guide to the best Hocking Hills hikes ranks the rest by effort.

Our pick

The best Hocking Hills yoga retreat is a long weekend with no plans you can't cancel. Book a cabin that fits your group, schedule two sessions a day, and leave the afternoons empty.

Our place is one of the Hocking Hills cabins for groups, with room for 9 and 97 acres around it. For more ideas, see our guide to things to do in Hocking Hills.

Hocking Hills yoga retreat FAQs

How do you plan a Hocking Hills yoga retreat?

To plan a Hocking Hills yoga retreat, book a cabin that fits your whole group, bring your own mats and a teacher from among your guests, and schedule sessions for early morning and evening. Keep the middle of the day for short walks, meals and rest. Book fall weekends early, since October is the busiest stretch of the year.

Is there a spa in Hocking Hills?

There is spa service in Hocking Hills, mostly at inns and resorts near the state park, with massages, facials and couples treatments. Ask whether the spa takes guests who aren't staying there, and book early for fall weekends. Inner Wisdom Wellness in Logan offers yoga, sound baths and energy work by appointment.

Can we book a traveling massage at the cabin?

You can't book a traveling massage at Serenity Lodge, because our house rules don't allow outside visitors at the cabin, including therapists and instructors. Book a treatment at a spa near the state park instead, and soak in our private hot tub when you get back. It's open to guests the whole stay.

What should we bring for a yoga weekend in Hocking Hills?

For a yoga weekend in Hocking Hills, bring mats, blocks and straps, layers for cool mornings, and bug spray for the porch in summer. Cell service is weak in the woods, so download playlists and class videos before you arrive. Our cabin has Wi-Fi, linens, towels and coffee, so you can pack light otherwise.
