Add the free disc golf course in the state park and mini golf for the kids. That's enough for a rainy-day backup or a full golf trip.

Bring your own clubs if you can. This is hill country, so expect sloped lies and tree-lined fairways.

Hocking Hills Golf Club

Hocking Hills Golf Club is the area's main course: 18 holes, par 71 and 5,861 yards, with tree-lined fairways and views over the Hocking Valley. It's public, and it calls itself the finest public course in southeastern Ohio.

Jack Kidwell designed it, and it opened in 1938. At 5,861 yards it isn't long, but the hills make up for that.

The Urban Grille, a restaurant and bar on site, makes it easy to turn a round into a half day. Call the pro shop for tee times and rates, since the club's site doesn't list prices.

Windy Hills Golf Course

Windy Hills is a 9-hole course on US Route 33 in Rockbridge, at the northern edge of the Hocking Hills. Its GolfNow listing puts it at 3,055 yards, built in 1969, with bent-grass greens and bluegrass fairways.

It's open year-round, with carts and club rentals, and walking is allowed. There's no driving range, so warm up on the first tee. Nine holes make it an easy add-on to a morning hike.

Hocking Hills disc golf in the state park

The course is listed with the Professional Disc Golf Association as the Whispering Cave Disc Golf Course, at the park lodge's address on State Route 664. It opened in 2018, and the back nine followed in 2019. Bring your own discs.

Hocking Hills Market on US 33 in Rockbridge also lists Hocking Hills Mini Golf and Hocking Hills Disc Golf among its shops, next to the antique malls in our guide to Hocking Hills shopping.

Hocking Hills disc golf pairs well with lunch at the state park lodge, which is open to everyone. Our guide to restaurants in Hocking Hills has its hours.
